Junior Researcher – 0.5 FTE (doctoral student) (M/F) - Centre for Credible AI (CCAI/2026/R1/10)

Warsaw University of Technology is recruiting three Junior Researchers (doctoral students) at 0.5 FTE for the Centre for Credible AI, working at the interface of machine learning, cancer genomics, and precision oncology.

The person employed in this position will participate in research of a team working at the interface of machine learning, cancer genomics, and precision oncology. The work is interdisciplinary in nature and requires close cooperation with research teams in the development, optimisation, and application of computational methods that connect molecular and morphological features of tumors to the underlying DNA processes that shape them, with the broader goal of improving biomarker discovery and supporting precision oncology. Research spans probabilistic modeling of mutagenic processes, explainable deep learning applied to histopathology, and the integration of genomic, imaging, and clinical data. Candidates will work with large-scale public cancer cohorts and contribute to open-access tools for the research community. The position offers close supervision from researchers active in cancer genomics, machine learning, and explainable AI. Successful applicants will be expected to contribute to peer-reviewed publications and to the development of methods with translational potential.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement methods for modeling, exploration, and analysis of high-dimensional biomedical data using machine learning approaches
  • Develop tools for data processing, visualization of results, and automation of computational experiments
  • Collaborate with research teams on the implementation of reproducible and scalable experimental procedures
  • Document research results in scientific publications and internal reports, and contribute to open scientific software repositories

Requirements

  • Higher education (Master's degree) at the time of employment
  • Strong academic background in computer science, mathematics, machine learning, bioinformatics, computational biology, physics, or related field, with coursework demonstrating quantitative training
  • Documented research experience in a life-science domain, for example through a master's thesis, publication, or research internship in a relevant area
  • Experience in software engineering, including designing, testing, and maintaining complex code systems (preferred languages: Python, R, C++, or others used in computational research)
  • Experience working with large-scale, high-dimensional genomic, biomedical, and/or imaging datasets
  • Knowledge of tools and practices related to scientific software development (version control, CI/CD, automated testing, containerization, reproducibility)
  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Very good knowledge of English

Benefits

  • Participation in an interdisciplinary project spanning Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical science, Physics, and Complex Systems
  • A unique multidisciplinary workplace in one of the leading scientific institutions in Poland
  • Stimulating, young, and friendly work environment
  • Access to state-of-the-art computational equipment
  • Opportunities for interdisciplinary and international collaborations
  • Possibility of further personal and scientific development
